Music is the Soul of the Man

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
-Bob Marley

At times, it speaks to a situation, to a part of your soul that no one can comprehend
to your heart that no one can understand and to your sanity because without it, you
may just grow to dislike everything that you once stood for.

Everyone has their own Genre, everyone has that one particular sound that makes you
forget what life is throwing at you, and just being able to breathe again.  Whether
it be the reassurance of Freddie Mercury and Queen, the passion of life Bob Marley
portrayed or even the inventiveness of Michael Jackson when he was in his peak.

Playlist are made to fit your mood.  The Shuffle button is there if you want to be
random.  The repeat function allows you to relive a moment in your life that you
don’t want to forget.  Music, is the universal language that we all speak.

AC/DC made us want to get on the “Rock and Roll train”, Nirvana reminded us to “Come
as you are”, Queen told us “We are the Champions” while Bon Jovi laid you on a “Bed
of Roses.”  I can go on for days and cannot stress the importance of Music enough.

To be honest, had it not been for this, I would have been declared insane.  This is
a fact that I have laughed about, but sitting here thinking of the severity of how
different my life could have been, makes me appreciate it more.  And while I am a
stickler for the older generation of music, I still occasionally put my feelers out
to see what the world of entertainment can offer.

There is no amount of playlists that you can create, that will ever be either perfect
or complete.  Something, someone will always be missing and it can be a good source
of banter between your mates.  While some will not like the fact that you prefer Green
Day over Limp Bizkit, or prefer the newer kids on the block, whether there is a
preference for Kendrick Lamar over Drake or if Whitney Houston had a better vocal
range then Adele…the debates is endless.

If you had to ask my now, what my favorite 30 songs would be, I would probably end up
giving you 120 and that would not be enough.  The same can be said for Artists because
while you have your preferences, you also get those that will have a track or two, that
you feel directly speaks to you.  And that is what Music is about, lyrics or beats that
speaks to your soul.  Music that when heard, you just nod in agreement and close your eyes.
It sets you free and can bring you back from the darkness.

“It’s better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you’re not…”
-Kurt Cobain.

Getting back into the act

We are all aware of the storms that life can throw at you.  There will always be the days when you wish you were on some distant planet, or very far away from your current circumstances.

Every person, no matter what their  background, have to sit and find a way back to an acceptable level of productivity or even sanity if you may.  And no matter how easy you perceive your circumstances to be, it can become a struggle.

Me?  The last few months has been tough.  Tough in the sense where Personal Development in the work place has been replaced by unbearable conditions for productivity.  Tough in the sense where my health has taken a decline and I just can’t seem to care about improving this in the least.  Tough where I have been pressurizing myself to an extent where it has effected my sanity.

Where to from here?

Work:  No longer am I sitting back.  I have applied for positions with other firms.  I am still giving my 100% as I always will, but will keep my reservations.

Health:  Starting to Gym again.  have a decent work out plan so cannot wait to get back in the swing of things.

Mental State:

And this is where the idea for the post comes from.  Since I have not posted in a long while, this will once more be a good avenue to get back to a level of sanity acceptable to my day to day workings.

Reading more.  I have not read a proper novel or auto in a while.  Speaking to like minded individuals, I have decided to get back to this too.  Nothing says strong willed than someone willing to chill with a book.

Think I should change the name of this blog…

No, will rather keep it as is.  But I promise I am back.

Strangely, this was enjoyable

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is always a great expectation especially when a new title is released.  In recent years, the start and impending build up of story lines such as Iron Man, Thor and the Avengers, have kept viewers interested.

With the recent injection of much needed fuel to the proverbial fire by DC coming out of the shadows with their own plans, the Marvel side needed to invest in “other” characters to carry forward the mantle.

Enter Dr Stephen Strange.

It took 20 years for this movie to come to fruition.  But in my opinion, opens up the MCU to a new level of infinite possibilities.  The fight scenes is awesome, and the movie is enjoyable on Imax.  Then again, most of them are.

Benedict Cumberbatch as the Doc at first was a strange casting.  His work on Dr Who made him a household name in the United Kingdom.  Like always, these type of movies has a way of bringing out the best in actors and I look forward to his contribution in the MCU.

Chiwetel Ejoifor was a surprise inclusion, but I always liked him for his roles in 2012, 12 Years a Slave and American Gangster.  The real surprise though was Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One.

On a scale of 10, I would rate this a solid 9.  I think the graphics was awesome, and the Mystical realm has endless possibilities going forward.  The next feature is only due in May 2017 when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is released.  Might be a good idea to stock up on the Blu Ray release when it comes out.

Be the one it happens too

Murphy’s law, what a travesty.  I hate the fact that it even exists.  Like, how does the one thing that you don’t want to happen to you occur?

For work, over the last 12 Years, I have probably flown locally, and a few times abroad close to 350 times.  Twice a month return flights to our headquarters, for ten years plus a lot of airtime.  I am sure that had all the Kilometers racked up, I could easily be a millionaire.

During this time, I have never missed a flight.  I have seen planes delayed, have seen restless passengers undecided and delaying flights, I have seen it all.  That is until the day that I ran late…

Seeing that my new job (for the last 3 years) has had me working during the night, I often have to stay till after my shift is done to assist my staff with complex issues.  This week happens to be what me and a few mates refer to as “MOB weekend”, a gathering of mates that just have a good time.  It also happened to coincide with the visit of my CEO…who happened to travel 10000 kilometres to do a site visit so time on the day of my departure was quite hectic.

Arriving at the airport with minutes to spare, the one day you expect them to wait for you, they do not.  The shock of seeing the plane stand there for a full 10 minutes after you arrive but them not allowing you to for once be the exception to the rule.

So here I am, sitting waiting for a later flight, sipping on coffee having been awake 20 hours, sleepy as fuck.

The joys of South Africa..Murphy

Here’s to the Greats

The music world recently lost yet another talented artist.  The Artist formerly known as Prince passed away two weeks ago and this made me think of my love for Music, whether it be Internationally or Locally.

Like all the previous greats we have lost, Prince too had his contribution to my love for Music.  In no particular order, here is my top 45 songs from artist that passed away in the last 30 years.

  8. California Dreamin – The Mama’s and Papas (John Phillips)

  37. I want to know what love is – Foreigner (Ed Gagliardi)
  38. Up where we belong – Joe Cocker
  39. When a Man loves a Woman – Percy Sledge
  40. The Thrill is gone – BB King

  43. After the Love is Gone- Earth Wind and Fire (Maurice White)

The world just seems to be losing some of the most talented artist that our Era has ever seen.  This should then be wake up call to up and coming artist to solidify their positions.

Do you Bleed?

The lead up to the release of Superman vs Batman had plenty of people excited.  Finally, a Superman that could take the role and make it his own after Christopher Reeves made his name playing Clark Kent.

Ben Affleck, at first was a dodgy and strange choice for Bruce Wayne, but knowing Ben, I always believed that his acting capabilities was top notch.  Yes, he sucked as Daredevil, but that was done in a time when comic book heroes was starting to come to life in a manner that none of us could have imagined.

My thoughts on the movie after watching this last week?

I think DC has struck gold.  This was the introduction into the Justice League that we have been craving for.  I cannot think of a better way to introduce Wonder Woman, and flashes of the Flash and Aqua Man, making me wonder when we will be seeing what DC has up their sleeve.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther was a masterstroke.  While watching this, my companion made a valid point that has to be raised here.  Doesn’t his performance remind you of a certain Joker?

Nonetheless, he puts a totally different spin on Lex who will grow into one of the main characters in the Superman timeline.  There was a lot of people that did not agree or liked the movie, but Zack Snyder did a good enough job to be put in charge of the entire JLA project, which should be their top priority, as well as giving other characters their own movies leading up to what could possibly put DC back on top.

This would need to be implemented rather sooner then later since Marvel has been doing a great job at getting their timeline in order.  With Captain America Civil War due to hit us, everything is pointing to Spiderman joining the stable of one of the strongest line ups in Comic Book World that you could possible find.  The names that is being associated with this is immense and I will gladly be following this as things develop.

My question to Marvel though…

Do you Bleed?

Eat, Play and Drink

Let’s get this straight, I am not a newbie.

Ok seriously though I am not.  I have been blogging since Yahoo Mail was the dominant force in free mail.  Since a time when Myspace was looked at as the next best thing, albeit only for a very brief memory in history.

Normally people would like someone posting their first time to give an account of themselves, who they are, what they do, and the list goes on.  And sitting here, I am thinking the exact same thing, but only once I wake up from my nap and actually spend some time on updating my site, then you will get an “about” section.

Ok, maybe I should not be so blunt.  Hell, I have not written, even on my own WordPress blog for a year.  Not out of choice though, there is this thing we grown ups refer to as “work” and to be honest, I have not felt this tired in my entire life.  But on the other hand, I have had this craving to start writing again.  Even the most unimportant things, this has always been my one platform where I could write and be happy, share ideas/stories, and read how people from all walks of life use blogging as some sort of therapeutic release from our very complicated and stressed out lives.

Ok, maybe I should introduce myself after all….

Skogan is one of many nicknames that I have been given.  It is the sound of Chun Lee from Street Fighter if you are aware, the World Edition 2 version that is.

We have covered the fact that I consider myself a veteran in blogging.  I am a slave at work, and work during the night, when any normal human being would be asleep, and no, I am not Dracula’s slave.  I enjoy the simple, yet enjoyable things in life, meaning when I eat, I love Braai…(South African version of BBQ), when I play, well, gaming has always been a hobby I enjoy and after much reflection, I realize that I have fallen way behind and need to make some sort of comeback, and Drink, well who does not love to get shitfaced on your off times.

Thinking about writing, I had to be sort of clever, so within the next couple of days, I will spice up this space, new Twitter handle, Facebook page, new Instagram account, all which to promote the craziness I get up too.

What may you expect you may think or ask?  Well, I don’t do make up and fashion tips.  If you are comfortable wearing a hoodie and a Adidas tracksuit pants, then we will get along quite good.  You will find reviews of Series, Movies, Games, any restaurants or adventures and then ofcourse some sport.  My wish is for me to keep this site up and contribute on a more regular basis then my previous account which is still active.  It is not the passion for writing died, it will never, it is just that I don’t have the amount of time to sit and write…

So go on, follow me, matter of fact, follow yourself to follow some friends and then send them my way.  This will be the start of a very good relationship…..

Till later.
